[RESOLVED] Ultimate Doom Builder - Line flip in Visual mode?

Post by violgamba »

Is it possible, in Ultimate Doom Builder, to flip lines while in Visual Mode? It'd be really handy to be able to see the graphic and/or the vertical placement of a line I'm about to flip. This is especially true when there are lots of lines that are hard to distinguish between when viewed in map-mode.

Select a line and press 'f'(lip) in line mode.

Unfortunately, the "F" key doesn't work in Visual Mode. Possibly for no other reason than that it's remapped to strafe-right. That doesn't mean that line flipping isn't possible, just not with the "F" key.

I don't think that works in 3D visual mode. Might need to make a feature request for it?

As I was entering the feature request, it occurred to me that being able to keep the selection between modes would basically resolve this. You can select one or more lines in while view-mode then switch to map-mode to flip them. Low and behold, Shift-Q lets you keep your selection between modes!

It's an extra step to my original hope of just flipping lines while in view-mode, but keyboard shortcuts are fast enough to make this acceptable, at least to me.

You can set that to be the default behavior in the preferences: Preferences -> Ediing -> Synchronize selection between Visual and Classic modes.

Besides that I don't really see the use-case.

It seems like visual-mode is great for detail or vertical work, whereas map-mode is better for broad-level or flat work. Anything you can do in ONLY ONE MODE could benefit from the strengths of the other. I've identified flipping as one feature like this. Another is shift-clicking a face to select all like-faces in visual mode. Selecting like-faces in visual-mode, then being able to keep that selection in map-mode is very useful.

I'm new to mapping, so I imagine there are other things I haven't discovered yet.
