In Orwell's totalitarian society, Room 101 is a torture chamber inside the ministry of love, where citizens are sent when they have refused to accept the dogma of the state. Inside, they are forced to either experience their worst nightmare, or commit an unspeakable act of betrayal towards someone they love (love is something that is shunned by Big Brother). This breaks their resolve completely, because if they dont accept they will just continue to live perpetually in a state sponsored hell until they shrivel and die.

Hence the reason why I put the FAQ there :)
